Kansas State football is undergoing a dramatic roster shakeup as multiple players have entered the NCAA transfer portal following head coach Chris Klieman’s latest round of roster cuts. The move signals a major shift in direction for the Wildcats as they prepare for the 2025 season.
Sources close to the program confirm that at least six scholarship players have entered the portal in the last 48 hours. Among them are several notable contributors from the 2024 squad, including a pair of defensive backs and a former four-star wide receiver recruit.
Klieman, now entering his seventh year at the helm in Manhattan, has not publicly commented on the individual departures, but a team spokesperson released a brief statement Thursday afternoon:
“Coach Klieman and the Kansas State football program are constantly evaluating the roster to position the team for future success. We appreciate the contributions of all student-athletes and support them in the next steps of their careers.”
While spring practices gave fans a first glimpse of new talent, insiders suggest the coaching staff was not satisfied with the depth and overall performance in certain position groups. The cuts and resulting transfers appear to be part of a larger effort to free up scholarships and bring in impact players through the portal.

This is not the first time K-State has seen mid-offseason roster churn, but the volume and timing of the moves raise questions about internal dynamics and long-term planning. Klieman, who led the Wildcats to a Big 12 title in 2022, faces growing pressure to return the program to conference contention after a 7–5 campaign last year.
The names of all the players entering the portal have not yet been officially confirmed, but multiple reports indicate a mix of underclassmen and upperclassmen are involved.
Expect Kansas State to be active in the portal as Klieman and his staff retool the roster ahead of summer workouts and fall camp. More updates are expected in the coming days.
