Virginia Tech Hokies News: Major Injury Blow, Key Transfer Additions, and More Developments

Virginia Tech women’s basketball head coach Megan Duffy continues to shape her 2025–26 roster around a solid group of returners. So far, she has secured transfers from Purdue’s Sophie Swanson and Kilah Freelon from Texas Tech via the portal. On Thursday, she landed her third addition.

Melannie Daley, formerly of Northwestern, chose Virginia Tech over SEC contender Vanderbilt. Last season, Daley posted averages of 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game for the Wildcats — slightly below her previous year’s stats. With her commitment, Duffy now has 12 scholarship players on the roster, leaving three spots available.

Football adds transfer long-snapper from Big 12 school

Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has seen a surge of commitments recently, with the newest addition being long-snapper Drew Doyle from Iowa State. The 6-foot-1, 255-pound redshirt freshman has four years of eligibility remaining. A 2019 high school graduate, Doyle spent four years in the U.S. Navy before transitioning to college football. He’s currently ranked as the No. 7 long-snapper by Rubio Long Snapping.

Former Virginia Tech guard suffers devastating injury

Georgia Amoore’s move from Virginia Tech to Kentucky after the 2023–24 season came as no surprise, as she opted to follow former Hokies coach Kenny Brooks for her final year of eligibility. Recently selected by the Washington Mystics in the WNBA Draft, Amoore was poised to begin her professional career.

Unfortunately, it was announced that Amoore has suffered an ACL injury — a tough blow with the WNBA season about to begin. Wishing her a swift recovery, especially as she becomes the second former Virginia Tech standout to endure such an injury; Elizabeth Kitley tore her ACL in March 2024. Kitley is still expected to debut with the Las Vegas Aces this season.
