Right-hander Michael Mercado was optioned to the same affiliate by the Philadelphia Phillies, who also recalled right-hander Yunior Marte from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Earlier in the season, Marte, 29, made 22 relief appearances for the Phillies, recording a 7.13 ERA in 24 innings. In 101 bullpen appearances over the last three seasons, he is 2-2 with a 5.66 ERA with the Phillies and San Francisco Giants (2022).
After making his major league debut on June 24, Mercado, 25, appeared in five games (two starts) and finished 1-2 with an 11.08 ERA. The Phillies, who are one game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers with one month left in the regular season, started play on Thursday with the second-best record in the National League (78-55).
