He sustained an injury while working the plate during the Colorado Rockies’ game against the New York Yankees on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. In the fifth inning, Giancarlo Stanton’s broken bat struck 41-year-old Mahrley in the neck. Mahrley’s mask came off as the barrel struck the left side of his face.
Major League Baseball said that Mahrley had been diagnosed with a concussion following New York’s 10-3 victory. MLB announced on Thursday that he is still being evaluated and won’t be back until at least Sunday.
On August 3, 2017, Mahrley made his main league debut. As of the 2023 season, he is a full-time part of the major league staff.
