The top-ranked women’s team enters the 2025 NCAA Track and Field Championship this week with a powerful roster of 16 student-athletes set to compete across eight events. With depth, experience, and momentum on their side, the team is aiming to extend its dominance and bring home the national title.
Led by a dynamic mix of seasoned seniors and promising underclassmen, the squad is expected to make a significant impact in both track and field events. Sprinters, distance runners, jumpers, and throwers alike will contribute to the team’s pursuit of crucial points in the overall standings. Their versatility allows the coaching staff to optimize event lineups, with some athletes competing in multiple disciplines to maximize medal opportunities.
Among the standout athletes is senior sprinter Maya Johnson, who enters the 100m and 200m races with the fastest seed times in the country this season. Her consistency and explosive speed have made her a leader on and off the track. She’ll be joined by sophomore sensation Leah Thompson, who will double in the 400m and the 4x400m relay, both events in which she has posted top-five national marks.
In the field events, junior high jumper Rachel Park and freshman long jumper Jada Ellis are expected to contend for podium finishes. Park, a returning All-American, has cleared a personal best of 1.91m this season, while Ellis recently set a school record with a 6.55m jump. In the throws, senior discus specialist Olivia Greene will look to cap her collegiate career with a strong performance, entering the championship ranked third nationally.
Distance events will also be key for the team’s scoring potential. Sophomore twins Emily and Emma Rivera will compete in the 1500m and 5000m, respectively. Both athletes have displayed impressive endurance and tactical racing skills throughout the season, consistently finishing near the top in major meets.
With strategic planning and a well-rounded lineup, the team’s coaching staff has positioned the squad to contend in every event they enter. The championship will test the depth and resilience of the athletes, but with 16 of the nation’s top competitors representing the program, expectations are high. If performances meet projections, the top-ranked team is well-poised to leave the meet not just with individual accolades, but with the NCAA title firmly in their grasp.
