CONFIRMED: Another Warriors Top-Notch Fans Favorite Sign Unexpected Deal

Stephen Curry has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a one-year contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, keeping him with the team until 2027.

The deal is reportedly worth $62.6 million (£47.5 million) and ensures the four-time NBA champion will earn a total of $178 million (£135 million) over the next three years.

At 36 years old, Curry, a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, is set to become the fourth NBA player to surpass $500 million in career earnings, joining LeBron James, Paul George, and Kevin Durant.

By the end of his new contract, Curry’s total on-court earnings will reach approximately $532 million (£403 million), making him the second-highest earner in NBA history, behind only LeBron James ($580 million).

Curry has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors since they selected him with the seventh overall pick in the 2009 draft.

This season, the 10-time NBA All-Star will play without his long-time teammate Klay Thompson. Despite Curry’s efforts to keep him, the Warriors were unable to agree on a new contract with Thompson, who ended his 13-year tenure with the team by signing with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.

Of the four players who were part of each of the Warriors’ NBA title victories, only Curry and Draymond Green remain. They are now tasked with leading the team into a new era, as the Warriors plan to rely more on their young players after missing the playoffs last season.

What makes Curry so valuable?

Curry has transformed the game of basketball, particularly with his and Klay Thompson’s three-point shooting, which earned them the nickname “Splash Brothers.”

However, Curry has always been the most formidable of the two. Despite being 6 feet 2 inches tall, his incredible accuracy from beyond the arc has changed the expectations for players in every position, who now must be proficient in shooting and defending three-point shots.

In 2022, Curry became the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers, with his total now standing at 3,747.

At the end of that season, the Warriors claimed their fourth NBA title in eight years, a victory often regarded as Curry’s “crowning achievement.”

Two years later, Curry continues to excel, showing little sign of decline. Last season, he averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while shooting 45% overall and 40.8% from three-point range.

He also led the NBA in three-point field goals for the eighth time in his career, making 357—the third-highest in a single season. He still holds the record for most three-pointers in a season with 402, set in 2015-16.

Curry was also clutch last season, leading the league in points (189), three-pointers (32), and field goals made (59) during the critical final minutes of games.

This summer, at the Paris Olympics, Curry joined an elite group of players—LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Bill Russell—who have won at least four NBA championships, two MVP awards, and an Olympic gold medal.
