The Hokies seem to have dodged a significant setback regarding the injury to running back Bhayshul Tuten during their game against Marshall.
In the fourth quarter of Virginia Tech’s 31-14 win over Marshall, fans were concerned when running back Bhayshul Tuten went down after a defender hit him, causing him to land awkwardly on his leg. Tuten, a transfer from North Carolina A&T, has been a key factor in the Hokies’ offensive success this season, making the injury even more worrying.
Fortunately, Tuten was able to walk off the field, which was an encouraging sign, and he was seen testing his leg on the sideline. However, after a strong third quarter, his playing time was limited for the remainder of the game. Postgame, running backs coach Elijah Brooks provided a positive update on Tuten’s status.

After the game, running backs coach Elijah Brooks provided an update on Bhayshul Tuten that should bring a sense of relief to Hokies fans, especially after Tuten’s impressive performance, rushing for 120 yards and a touchdown.
“He wants to be on the field for every snap, and sometimes you have to hold him back to prevent further injury. But he’s fine. We felt it was in his best interest to keep him out for the remainder of the game,” said Brooks, offering reassurance about Tuten’s condition.
With a three-score lead, Brooks and head coach Brent Pry made the right call in holding Tuten out. There was no need to risk further injury by putting him back in the game. Malachi Thomas and P.J. Prioleau were more than capable of carrying the load in the backfield for the remainder of the contest.
Preserving Tuten’s health is crucial early in the season. If there’s any concern about an injury, it was wise to limit his play in a game where Virginia Tech was in control. Thomas and Prioleau managed to handle the ball effectively to run down the clock. For the Hokies to succeed offensively, it relies heavily on Kyron Drones and Tuten, particularly their running game. Monitoring Tuten’s practice participation leading up to the Old Dominion game will be important.
