The Washington Commanders have added veteran kicker Austin Seibert to their active roster. Seibert, originally a fifth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2019, has appeared in 31 games over his five-year career. He most recently played for the New York Jets in 2023, making an appearance in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.
This move follows the Commanders’ decision to release Cade York, who missed both field goal attempts during their 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Seibert has successfully converted 80.4% of his 56 career field goal attempts and 90.3% of his extra point attempts.
Head coach Dan Quinn emphasized the team’s high standards during a Monday press conference, saying, “We’re not backing down, we’re going to keep pushing forward to improve.”
After being waived by the Browns following Week 1 of the 2020 season, Seibert was picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals for the remainder of the year. He then spent two seasons with the Detroit Lions, playing nine games and hitting 76.5% of his field goals and all 12 extra points. Seibert also had two stints with the Jets in 2023 and spent part of the season on the New Orleans Saints practice squad.
Seibert, who played college football at Oklahoma as both a kicker and punter, set an NCAA record with 499 career points.
In addition, the Commanders have signed rookie offensive tackle Anim Dankwah to their practice squad. Dankwah, a standout from Howard University, is 6-foot-8 and 353 pounds, and was a First Team All-MEAC selection in 2023. He was previously signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent.
