New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe shared on Thursday that he will be living with teammate and goaltender Jonathan Quick during the 2024-25 season, according to The Athletic’s Peter Baugh. When discussing his new living situation, the 22-year-old Rempe humorously described himself as “their oldest child,” referring to his arrangement with the Quick family.
Remy Mastey of The Hockey News reported that Matt Rempe described his living arrangement with Jonathan Quick as “awesome.” He mentioned having fun catching frogs with Quick’s four-year-old son, Cash. Despite not being very skilled at frog-catching, Rempe, known for his fighting ability on the ice, has had some playful moments with Cash. Rempe humorously recounted that after Cash gave him a headbutt, he praised the move, saying, “Oh, that’s a good one,” as he playfully shared some fighting tips with Quick’s young son.
Matt Rempe said he will live with Jonathan Quick and his family all year if he’s up with the NHL club.

A former sixth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Matt Rempe made his New York Rangers debut during the 2023-24 season. Although his offensive contributions were modest, with just one goal and one assist in 17 games, his physical presence on the ice was notable. Rempe accumulated an impressive 71 penalty minutes and 50 hits, despite averaging under six minutes of ice time per game. In the playoffs, he added a goal, recorded 38 hits, and had 10 penalty minutes across 17 games.

Although Matt Rempe showed potential during his rookie NHL season, securing a spot on the Rangers’ roster for the current year is not guaranteed. Head coach Peter Laviolette emphasized on Wednesday that Rempe will need to earn his place just like any other player. With training camp now in progress, Rempe’s opportunity to make an impression on Laviolette will come during the Rangers’ preseason opener against the Boston Bruins on September 22.
