GOOD NEWS: Rangers Confirm to Sign Stanley Cup-Winning Forward to $24 Million Deal

The New York Rangers are shaping up to be one of the more fascinating teams to follow this offseason, with the potential for significant roster moves.

PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool lets fans create and share trade and signing scenarios. One user projected that the Rangers could sign Stanley Cup-winning forward Sam Bennett to a four-year, $24 million contract—an average of $6 million per season.

On paper, the deal seems reasonable for Bennett, who is in the final year of his current four-year, $17.7 million contract, which carries a $4.425 million annual cap hit. The physical forward would receive a pay bump and could become an important addition to the Rangers’ lineup.

The Rangers might explore trading veterans like Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider this offseason, which would create a clear need for reinforcements up front. Sam Bennett could fill that role as a top-six forward, offering a physical presence combined with scoring ability—traits similar to what Kreider brings to the ice.

Bennett played a crucial role in helping the Florida Panthers capture the Stanley Cup in 2024. This season, he’s tallied 22 goals and 23 assists, totaling 45 points over 66 games with Florida.

Rangers GM Has Intriguing Decisions to Make

The New York Rangers came into the season with high expectations, but things haven’t gone according to plan.

Currently sitting outside of a playoff spot, the Rangers are rumored to be considering offseason trades involving Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, and even Artemi Panarin.

At the trade deadline, general manager Chris Drury took a balanced approach, acting as both a buyer and a seller. Drury explained his strategy of trying to stay competitive while keeping an eye on the team’s future.

“I was really trying to thread the needle,” Drury said. “I wanted to make sure we got some assets in return for our pending unrestricted free agents—whether that was a young player like Brendan Brisson or some draft picks, or another young player in Juuso Pärssinen—while also showing this group I still believe in them. Which I do. As we continue our push for the playoffs, I wanted to give them some actual reinforcements.”

The Rangers currently hold a 33-30-6 record, sitting just one point out of a playoff position.
